How long does it take to install hurricane shutters?

Once the product arrives, we like to get it installed as quickly as possible and can generally do so within a week or two at the most after arrival. A rough estimate on install time is about an hour per opening, this of course depends on the complexity of the job.

What type of hardware do you use when installing?

We use stainless steel hardware when installing to mitigate rust and deterioration of hardware over time.

How much do hurricane shutters cost?

Shutter cost ranges based on the type, size, and electrical components. A rough estimate to cover a window ranges between $1,000 – $2,000 and a door is typically $1,500 – $2,500.

What type of hurricane shutters do you offer?

What ratings do your hurricane shutters have?

All of our hurricane shutters are Florida Building Code and Miami Dade County approved and can protect a home from category 5 hurricane force winds.

What happens if the power goes out? Can I still operate my shutters?

Motorized shutters can still be operated with a crank over-ride if the power is out. They would be raised or lowered with a hand crank attached to the hood of the shutter.

What are your hurricane shutters made out of?

Most of our shutters are made from extruded aluminum which doesn’t contain iron, so they’ll stay rust free.

How are hurricane shutters painted?

Shutters are powder coated to help protect and prevent shutters from rusting or chipping due to the harsh elements of the coast.

Do hurricane shutters rust?

No. Not if they are made from extruded aluminum like our products.

Are hurricane shutters waterproof?

Hurricane shutters can help prevent damage from wind driven rain by keeping water off of the seals of the windows, however they are not waterproof. Standing water, in a flood scenario, will get behind the shutters.

How long do hurricane shutters last?

Hurricane shutters, when taken care of properly, should easily last well over 15-20 years. Shutters should be cleaned and serviced regularly to ensure their longevity. The biggest issue we see that causes shutters to decrease in life is when they are not cleaned at least once a year. Sand and salt air are not friendly and need to be washed away.

Will hurricane shutters lower my insurance premiums?

Maybe. The answer used to be “yes” but it really depends on the insurance agency. Most agencies require that every single opening of your home needs to be protected. It’s best to check with your agency. If you need insurance coverage visit Cory Kennedy’s website

Will hurricane shutters lower my heating and air costs?

Absolutely. When deployed, hurricane shutters can keep the heat out in the summer and in during the winter.

What is the difference between decorative and rated Bahamas?

Good ole soap and water. We recommend a diluted mixture of soft dish cleaning soap and water. If possible, use a hose over a power washer (protect the paint)  to rinse the shutter.

You should service your shutters at least once a year, however using your shutters 1-2 times a month is the best way to keep them in good working order.
